the Buzz - Goodbye GOLF Link!

We want to make you aware of important changes to your handicap and scoring services as part of Golf Australia’s national technology upgrade.

From 10pm, Sunday 28 September 2025, the 25-year-old GOLF Link system will be permanently shut down. On Thursday 2 October, the new Golf Australia Official App and golfer portal at GOLF.com.au will launch – becoming your new home for handicaps, scoring history, and more.

Your new Golf ID

· Your current GOLF Link number will be your Golf ID for life.

· From 2 October, you’ll use this Golf ID to register and log in across the new Golf Australia system.

How to register from 2 October

1. Visit GOLF.com.au and go to the Sign up / Login page.

2. Enter your Golf ID – a verification email will be sent to your registered email.

3. Create a new password and confirm your profile details.

4. Download the new Golf Australia Official App from your app store.

If you do not wish to access golf.com.au or the new Golf Australia app, no action is required.

Transition period: what to expect

During the transition, handicap services will be offline while more than 250 million scores are migrated by Golf Australia. They have provided the following timeline:

· 28 Sept – GOLF Link shuts down permanently.

· 29 Sept–1 Oct – Handicap services offline; handicaps recalculated to align with the World Handicap System.

· 1 Oct – Major cutover day. Expect interruptions and temporary redirects. We recommend avoiding handicap services and websites on this day.

· 2 Oct – New App and GOLF.com.au go live. Recalculated handicaps available to view.

· 2–10 Oct – Clubs (including ours) will transition in phases. Some may take until around 10 October. This is normal.

Competition golf at our club

Handicaps will be frozen from 10pm Sunday 28 September and therefor we have programmed non handicapped team events such as Ambrose, Texas Team Stableford etc. throughout the transition phase

We expect to be back online from Monday 6 October, and plan to resume handicapping competition golf from this date. We will confirm this once the transition is complete.

It is important to note that Members may still book competition and social golf and use the MiScore app as per normal.

    Green Playing Surface Management

Beginning Monday 29 September, we will commence a program of cultural practices aimed at improving the putting quality of greens currently affected by green couch. The greens were originally Blue Couch, which was replaced in 1970 with Tifgreen Bermuda 328. Over time, green couch has re-established itself both from the edges of the greens and from rhizomes within the profile of the greens.

The green couch cannot be eliminated from Tifgreen Bermuda 328 through herbicide applications. Complete removal can only be achieved by mechanical or physical replacement, which may involve:

    • Turf doctoring, plugging. or turfing (this practice carries a high risk of re-infestation), or
    • Full green replacement, requiring excavation of the green well to a minimum depth of 250mm, replacement of the growing media and organics, and replanting with Tifgreen Bermuda 328. This option is the most effective but also the most expensive.

Over summer, the focus will remain on plant root health and an aggressive cultural management program targeting green couch. This will include:

    • Scarifying during green renovations
    • Regular grooming, and
    • Light top-dressing/dusting throughout the growing season.

The aim of this program is to thin and refine the green couch growth without compromising the health of the Tifgreen. By doing so, we can encourage finer stolons and leaf tips, producing a noticeably improved putting surface.

It is important to note that while these cultural practices will not remove green couch entirely, they will significantly improve the playability and consistency of the affected greens.
