After a good couple of years in the making, Club President Peter Stone was joined by Board and Life members and guests in declaring the First Tee safely open again as a Par 4 and the golf course returned to a Par 70!
With appreciation to Corporate Member, Mark Gaskell and his team from Gabba Sports Netting, the last of the nets were put in place Friday 4 July, just prior to the official opening at 4pm.
The ceremonial opening Tee shots were launched by reigning Club Champions Kylie Jackson and Kai Schloss where no netting was required! As the keen field stepped up to take their turn however, it was not long before the nets came into play and immediately proved their value.
The Saturday Comp from 5 July will be playing from the rear tees as the Club commences a week long celebration of the "Return of the First" with promotions across light and mid strength taps and with lunch and menu specials changing daily.
Club Captain Mick Todd and Toddy's Tips advises the Protective Fences on the right hand side of the 1FWY are considered an Abnormal Course Condition (Immovable Obstruction). Relief may be taken under Rule 16.1 linked. Relief from interference with the nets and poles is available, however Line of Play relief is NOT available. You may need to chip out. |
